Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team
Idea for research
Idea for research
The idea for this research proposal is to explore the socio-economic disparity between residents of Lancaster West Estate (LWE), which used to run Grenfell Tower, and the more affluent surrounding areas in Kensington and Chelsea. LWE has relatively poorer socio-economic outcomes compared to nearby areas such as Notting Hill and Holland Park. The research may also identify why disparities in socio-economic outcomes exist in areas that are geographically similar.
In order to effectively conduct research on LWE and the surrounding areas, some data at a ward level may be provided by Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team (LWNT).
The research may result in recommendations to address the disparity in socio-economic outcomes between LWE residents and the surrounding areas including ways to connect communities with different socio-economic outcomes.
Impact of idea
A thorough and robust research project will inform future decision making at LWNT across a variety of departments. That is, it could have long-lasting impact on the policy and lives of local Londoners. The conclusions of the research project may also provide suggestions about how the disparities between LWE and the surrounding areas can be addressed in an equitable fashion and how the communities could work together to understand and influence each other (community development and change).
This research project should focus on creating opportunities for LWE residents to access the networks, knowledge and experience of their neighbours. The neighbours involved have the opportunities to give back to their local community and interacting with people they may not usually meet.
